The installation environment and maintenance precautions of butterfly valves are crucial for ensuring their normal operation and extending their service life. The following is a detailed elaboration of these two aspects:

Installation environment

Environmental adaptability: Butterfly valves are suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments. However, in environments with corrosive media and prone to rust, a combination of materials with corresponding corrosion resistance and anti-rust properties should be used.

Installation site: Butterfly valves should be installed in places where they can be safely operated and are easy to maintain, inspect and repair.

Temperature and humidity: The working environment temperature of the butterfly valve should be between -20℃ and +70℃, and the humidity should be maintained below 90%RH.

Installation Precautions

Inspection and verification: Before installation, first check whether the valve specifications, pressure, temperature and corrosion resistance meet the usage requirements according to the nameplate marks on the valve, and also check whether each component is damaged or loose.

Cleaning and preparation: Before installation, all dirt and oxide scale in the pipeline should be removed first. The sealing surfaces (sealing surfaces at both ends, butterfly plate sealing surfaces, and valve seat sealing surfaces) should be thoroughly wiped clean to remove dust and dirt.

Installation direction: The medium flow direction should be consistent with the direction arrow marked on the valve body. Align the centers of the front and rear piping, make the flange interfaces parallel, and tighten the screws evenly.

Stress control: The pneumatic butterfly valve should not have excessive piping stress generated on the cylinder control valve. According to the size and weight of the cylinder control valve, appropriate support and fixation should be provided on the piping or to the body.

Closed installation: Butterfly valves can be installed on pipelines at any Angle, but it is advisable to install them in a closed state. When welding pipe flanges, the valve sealing port should be covered with a plate to prevent particles and debris from damaging the sealing surface. After welding, remove the valve, clean the sealing surface of the valve and the inner cavity of the pipeline, and then install and fix the valve.

Pressure testing and commissioning: Before installation, an empty test should be conducted to ensure that the butterfly valve opens and closes flexibly and that the opening and closing position is consistent with the position indicated by the pointer. When conducting pressure tests on valves, double flange installation pressure tests must be adopted, and the test pressure should comply with the relevant standard provisions.

Maintenance Precautions

Daily inspection: Regularly check whether there is any leakage, abnormal noise, vibration or other phenomena in system components such as valves, and maintain them, clean and remove dust, and remove residual stains.

Disassembly and maintenance: Valves should undergo disassembly and maintenance once a regular period, including flushing parts, removing foreign objects, stains and rust spots, replacing damaged or severely worn gaskets and packing, and correcting sealing surfaces, etc. After maintenance, the valve needs to undergo a hydrostatic test again. Only after passing the test can it be used again.

Electrical maintenance (for electric butterfly valves) : Inspect the power lines and control signal lines of the actuator to ensure there are no short circuits or open circuits. Regularly test the start and stop functions of the actuator to verify its response speed and accuracy.

Functional test: Perform a fully open and fully closed operation to verify whether the valve opens and closes smoothly, check the sealing performance, and ensure there is no leakage. Use dedicated tools to verify the stroke and torque Settings.

In conclusion, the installation environment and maintenance precautions for butterfly valves cover multiple aspects. From the preparations before installation to the precautions during the installation process, and then to the later maintenance and functional testing, all need to be carried out strictly in accordance with relevant requirements to ensure the normal operation of the butterfly valve and extend its service life.
